    On May 25, 1961 the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. made a speech to Congress explaining how the United States was falling behind technologically against the Soviet Union. He then stated, that he wanted the nation to put a man on the moon before the decade was over. This speech sparked the prelude and occurrance of the Apollo 11 launch on July 16, 1969 at the Kennedy Space Center. This was the official entry of the United States and the Space Race.
